School Success Coordinators

Retention

The purpose is to retain all students in K-12 through high school graduation in preparation for the future.

The School Success Coordinators partner with the Cultural Liaisons, Ridgewater College, the PAGE Foundation, and the African Coalition to provide job shadowing, tutoring, visits to college campuses, and opportunities for students to acquire credits for graduation and plan for the future.

There are School Success Coordinators for all school districts who focus on keeping students in grades 7-12 in school. They also:

connect students to academic resources for tutoring and mentoring

coordinate job-shadowing by connecting students' interests with appropriate jobs, this helps students get exposed to their expressed job interests

work with the School-to-Work Program to identify job sites

Technology is also being used to encourage students to stay in school. Computers are available for students to do research and practice the Basic Skills Test. In addition, the Basic Skills Tutoring software has been made available for all participating school districts.

School Success Coordinators work to connect students to tutoring services. There is also Peer to Peer Student tutoring available for students, as well as college students and people from students' faith communities who provide tutoring services.

School Success Coordinators also setup for students to visit their colleges of choice and connect with programs such as Fast Forward in the Jr. High and Upward Bound in the Sr. High to help them explore college and career options.

Finally, School Success Coordinators help students access to Spanish Language Camps for grades 1-6, and music and crafts activities. They also encourage participation in integrated activities such as theatre, music, and cultural celebrations.
